Francophone Holiday Projects

We explored the culture of France by learning about the different holidays celebrated there, and how they are similar and different to ours. Students shared their presentations with the class. Here are a few examples:

What is Le Poisson D'Avril?

  • Poisson D’Avril is a practical joke made on the first day of April.
  • During this day, French children try to attach a picture or cutout of a fish(poisson) on as many adults’ backs as they can.
  • When they tape it, they run away as fast as they can, yelling “poisson d’avril!”
  • It is also common in France for people to share jokes or puns with their friends.
  • Poisson D’Avril is a day in France where all sorts of silly jokes and hoaxes are welcome.
